Massachusetts lawmakers have come out with couple of internet gaming proposals. The proposals involve legalization of online lottery sales as well as other form of casino games online.
Sen. Bruce Tarr has proposed the Senate Bill #197, which calls for legalization of the internet casino games. The games, which would be avoided, are the ones resembling any form of slots. Again, games conflicting with the state lottery are also not going to be considered in the bill.
At this moment, the bill has been referred to the committee of Economic Development and Emerging Technologies.
Meanwhile, Sen. Jennifer Flanagan has also proposed a bill (#101). This bill is going to allow the lottery ticket sales on the internet. Joint Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure are going to carefully examine the bill before giving their feedback on the same to the higher authorities.
Even though the state does not have a land-based casino, Massachusetts is having a law in place, which allows them to have a slot parlor as well as 3 casinos there. However, till date, there is no news of the gaming license being awarded to any firm.
In case the bill does pass, it would make the state fourth to be allowed to have online gambling, after New Jersey, Nevada and Delaware.
Other than Massachusetts, Iowa, Pennsylvania and California are also considering legislation. However, none of them has gambling sites in an operating situation.
